Your Questions About How To Lose Belly Fat For Women After Pregnancy

Chris asks…

Is it normal to show so much at 5 weeks?!?

Well I guess I am 6 weeks now. I cant suck in my stomach hardly at all. I am a chubby girl anyways but this is makes me feel so much worse. I havent had any morning sickness and I feel like I am gaining weight like crazy…im not really overeating. Should I cut way back, almost diet, I know thats not healthy, I just mean something close to a diet. Anyways is it really possible for me to be showing so soon or am I just getting fatter! I dont know what to do, I feel like I am 6 months. I mean if it is possible then I will just let it be but if its me then I want to do something about it quick! Advice please!

I wouldnt worry too much about a lil extra weight gain during pregnancy. It could be that you have a bit too much amniotic fluid. It could be your a lil further along than your doc thinks you are. I wouldnt jump on callin the doc just yet but I would suggest that at your next apt. Bring it up and tell him exactly how you feel. Most overweight women will lose weight instead of gain during pregnancy but they still get that pregers belly. Good luck to you and your preciouse baby.

Sharon asks…

I am on a healthy diet and I am loosing a lot of weight but?

I see the difference in weight and size which is great and I am happy but my tummy is not why? I used to have this really small waist before I got pregnant and I got big during and after pregnancy. 18 months ago I gave birth but i didn’t find the strength to diet then. Now I am and it is working great already lost 18lb but why isn’t my tummy loosing all that fat??

I know I will probably never look as before but I am sure there is something I can do to lose some of that belly.

Please help.

By the way I do exercises but I can’t do a lot bcs I have back and neck pain from an injury so what else I can do. My dr. only advised me to walk and swim. At the moment since it is winter, I only walk about 1 hr 4 times a week.

The diet and the mild exercise are doing great for my weight loss but what about my belly???? HELP

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

For your belly its good if you do abs and crunches. BUT if you really want to burn, burn, burn, then do bike riding. It will not only burn fat, but tone your tummy to no end. Also, if you are a petite woman and you gave birth to a big baby, your stomach muscles would have separated to let the baby have space. It is not a big deal, unless your intestines are poking out, but it does make it more difficult to have a flat tummy as you lose the elasticity you had before birth.

I’m surprised you didn’t lose weight on your belly, though, because that is one of the first places fat comes off first.

Anyway, good luck and congrats on your weight loss. Walking has been proven to fight the fat, and 4 times a week is great. Maybe vary it between light jogging and walking at five min intervals or something. It has been proven to burn more fat.

Is about 20lbs too much to gain alredy?? I mean its not that noticible i got a belly oviously lol, and my thigs got more fat and butt!! My face starting to get more round. Ahhhhh and i still have some time to go =[
yea now it seems like i have no apetite at all!!! I dont eat much mayb like 2 big meals a day.

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

Weight gain is based upon whether you are underweight, average, or overweight when you become pregnant. Underweight women are encouraged to gain a little more weight than average women and overweight women are encouraged to gain a little less than average women. But all of them are within a 5-10 lb radius. Average weight women are encouraged to gain 25-30 lbs. I wouldn’t be overly concerned if I were you, it sounds like you don’t have many problems losing weight. I’m sure you’ll have it off in no time after the baby’s born. I on the other hand, have had trouble getting it off (I don’t work hard enough at it LOL), but the end result of my beautiful children had been totally worth it! Good luck and congratulations!!

Nancy asks…

overweight/ obese and pregnant?? Would you lose more weight than gain??Help?

Getting pregnant over weight. Im 5 ft 8 1/2 inches..and weigh about 190..if i were to get pregnant do you think i would lose weight before gaining? My ideal weight is around 160 so im almost considered obese. i read online that many very over weight and obese women who have gotten pregnant lose alot of weight and its actually good and healthy in their pregnancy? Do you think i would lose weight? or gain? Have any of you been in this position and either gained or lost weight being a bit heavier when pregnant?

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

I’ve gained about 20lbs, but it’s all belly. My mom thinks ill actually drop about 40lbs immediately because the weight isn’t excess and i’ve eaten healthier and I walk everywhere. My arms/legs have gotten smaller, I had some back fat after about 5 months pregnant, thats all gone, my butt didnt get any bigger. As far as I’m concerned, if I lose the weight I put on at delivery, I dont care that I didnt lose any during pregnancy. And ill be ecstatic if I lose some extra! Breastfeeding helps i’ve heard! Ill be breastfeeding!

Ruth asks…

Almost 36 weeks and still small.?

Before getting pregnant I wasnt small by any means but I wasnt fat either, just an average sized person. Since getting pregnant, I have gained about 15 pounds the doctor said. On other websites it says I should have gained 25-30 pounds by now. The doctor didnt say that there was anything to worry about. I eat when I get hungry and sometimes when I am not. I eat a lot, so I dont think I am not feeding myself enough. My belly isnt that big, but the baby is mostly at the top still and hasnt dropped yet so I dont look too big. Does it sound like everything will be ok? I am just getting nervous in these last few weeks.

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

If there was anything to worry about your doctor would’ve said something. I only gained about 12 pounds so far (lost almost six if I remember right, in the first three months) and my doctor’s happy. I’ve even lost some fatty deposits around my thighs and had to buy a size smaller in maternity wear just to get clothes that fit!

I am the same as you, just an average body (not fat, not thin) and I look MAYBE six months pregnant (I’m 34 weeks now), but my baby measures a few pounds bigger than the average at his gestational age. People keep asking me where I’m hiding him ;)

Every woman is different, the sites are helpful but they go on average, and as we all know there’s no such thing as ‘average’ when it comes to pregnancy. The sites are great, but they do make us worry about the small things sometimes. I’ve even been banned from them by my doctor because I keep telling him ‘but I’ve read and I’m not like…’ *lol*

Just relax, you’re almost there and if you had anything to worry about then your doctor would’ve said something by now.

Sandy asks…

I’m 7 weeks pregnant and feel like I am showing too soon!?

So I am 7 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. (My child is 2 years old). I am normally a very tiny person. I am 5’3″ and normally weigh about 115-120 pounds. I know you are supposed to show sooner with your second pregnancy. But I look like I am 4 or 5 months pregnant or something.

I have gained about 5 pounds already and my stomach gets is really round. All the weight is in my belly. I dont look ‘fat‘ or chunky, it is just my stomach looks very pregnant.

I am really not liking this excessive weight gain thing. I am really scared that I am going to gain too much weight with the entire pregnancy. Plus I believe you are only supposed to gain 1-2 pounds throughout the first trimester and I am only 7 weeks pregnant and have already gained over 5 pounds!!

You would think that I am eating bad. But im not. I feel like I have been eating pretty well. I’ve barely been eating any junk (like I did with my first pregnancy). I feel like I have been eating somewhat healthy and not eating tons of food but getting enough. So that is why I dont understand why I have gained so much weight.

So I’m wondering if a lot of other women have been in the same situation as me and been alright or what happened and how it affected them?

If you were in this same situation….
Did you gain more weight that you should have?
Did you find it harder to lose the weight after baby was born?
Did it make it really uncomfortable for you in the third trimester?

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

I’m short too and with my second baby I showed real early. It could be you just feel like you are bigger than you actually are. I wouldn’t worry about the weight gain, every woman is different, just try to eat healthy and drink lots of water and your baby will be fine.

Once the baby comes, you can work on getting back into shape and losing weight.
