Maria asks…

How do you know what is correct when there is so much conflicting information?

A Trainer said you shouldn’t be sore after a workout.
I always thought that soreness means progress (muscles tearing and rebuilding).

Fitness Magazine stated that any ab workout will affect all of the ab muscle groups.
I thought you had to target upper, lower, obliques and lower back.

Dude at the beach said that running everyday will build endurance.
My body tells me to take time off!

Shape Magazine said that 15 minutes minimum is what is needed for a warm up.
I thought it was 5 minutes! Not that I do either.

When you get your information, how do you know if if it is accurate?

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

I don’t look for any information on what and how =I just do it at my speed=enjoy it much more this way

John asks…

Does cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach burn fat?

I have read this in many different fitness magazines. However I cannot understand how this can be true.If you do cardio when you are in a catabolic state such as in the morning given that you probably have not eaten in 6-8 hours, how can your body burn anything but muscle. This does not make any sense to me.
I am not over weight .I am just curious as to why these myths come about, and if it is ture explain to me why.

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

You need energy in order to burn calories or fat when you work out. If you do a cardie workout, eat a good source of proteins and calories . It will give you the energy to do a good workout. Then after, you could drink or eat a source of protein(drink or power bar). It will replenish what you burned off and keep you from eating a huge meal. If you don’t eat before a cardio workout, you won’t have the energy to do a good workout. Best of luck. Hope I helped.

Paul asks…

The definition of a healthy well balanced diet?

I read about every fitness magazine around and hear millions of different ways to diet. There are magic pills that do it for you or candy bars with a zillion calories in them to make you not hungry. Bull. There is only one way to loose weight and that is to eat right and excersise and that is what I want to do. The only problem is, is that I don’t know what the perfect day of eating looks like to loose weight. How many carbs are too many in one sitting? Do you snack on carbs in between meals? If you are excersising isn’t it good to be snacking on carbs? But then I hear carbs are the devil. Can someone help me???

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

A healthy, well balanced meal consists of a wide variety (colorful) of fruits and vegetables.

Snacking on fruit is fine.

Carbs are the devil for people on low carb diets. Fruit has complex carbohydrates, which gives you longer lasting energy.

Lean meats and whole grains are also good to eat, due to the protein and fiber.

Instead of white rice, make spelt or whole wheat couscous.
Instead of the energy bar, eat an apple or banana.
Instead of the fried chicken, eat baked salmon.
Instead of salad dressing, cover your salad with fresh herbs for more flavor.
When you make your salads, be creative and use fruit and nuts along with the vegetables.

Ruth asks…

Is your body weight and a half in protein really health when your working out?

Health and Fitness Magazines including their ads promote protein, and its obviously a good thing, but if you read medical reports or advice it seems taking that much protein is bad for you and could affect your liver because of the chemical breakdown in your liver and keytones…etc..

Starting to think of moving away from protein supplements and just maybe using some creatine or something?

Any doctors out there or some solid facts on that?

Ramesh Klinkert answers:

U need to be very careful about ur diet when u r working hard on gym or ground.
U need to take lots af water juice fruits along with ur protein supplement
