So the lyrics are saying the “bustle” is someone collecting (spring clean) flowers for the May Queen. The song is actually about a woman getting everything she wanted all the time without giving back any thought or consideration. The girl the song was about was the May Queen, it’s like saying prom queen here in the US which infers fake perfection.

Played backwards it kind of sounds like:

It’s pretty self explanatory, in fact, it’s perhaps even more true today than it was when Wilde wrote it.

It’s another way of saying ‘there is no such thing as bad publicity’. Both these things mean that being ignored is worse than having no control over what is being said about you.

An excellent recent example would be Britney Spears, her recent breakdown (or what ever it was) and her recovery were extensively covered on tv, in the press, internet gossip sites etc etc. Now, much of what was said about her downward spiral was really nasty, but without all of that attention, negative though it was, being paid to her during that time, her recovery and comeback would have received less attention and so she’d had sold far fewer of her recent album/song/perfume whatever.

When Wilde wrote that, he was essentially saying, I know that people are saying awful things about me, but at least it means they are noticing me and what I have to say!

Lets see.. Dido is not very popular in my country – i’ve listened only one of her songs, it’s called Life For Rent and i just LOVE this song.
I guess Dido is very talented artist and have to pay more attention to her work in future.
I don’t like Britney Spears as an artist, i think she is the less talented out of these three. I absolutely don’t like her songs, except maybe the song Everytime – i love the piano. Ok.. Maybe Oops I Did It Again as well, it’s funny.
I know very well Nelly Furtados work, and definitely can say she is extremly talented, and maybe the most versatile artist on her generation. She is a composer, write her own songs, and many of them are meaningful with beautiful and depth lyrics.

“At one point I’d just come off the road and wasn’t feeling very inspired. I was talking to my mum on the phone. We took it all the way, we did the full-on spiritualised organ intro. There’s a really cool vocal round at the end, playing on the theme of childhood dreams. It’s in 6/8 time, very lilting. Also toward the end, we added tabla, which takes the song to a more universal place. It’s a super-ballad. Organ bells, church bells, wedding bells, chimes, tablas – the whole thing is magical.”

I feel so sorry for her. She has been working in the business from a very young age and really, from the look of it, has not had the chance to grown up out of the spotlight.

It is obvious that this is a young girl who is crying out for help who needs support and understanding and possibly getting as far away from show business as possible so she can lead a normal life for a while.

This is the only sort of life she has known and now, it is all going wrong and she’s lost her security. If she does not get the help she needs she will end up as another victim of the showbusiness circus!

We see it over and over again with kids who are thrust into show business, some survive, many don’t. Look at our own Lena Zavaroni and what it did to her or Judy Garland among many others.

The pussification of today’s children for one… These poor kids can’t even play dodge-ball anymore because it “encourages victimization”, can’t ride a bicycle without a helmet and knee pads.. Can’t climb a tree, can’t play tag, can’t tackle.. Kids can’t have any real fun anymore, they’re handed a cellphone from their baby boomer parents so they can text trivial nonsense all day with their shallow friends that wont wear anything that’s not branded with a company logo across the chest.. So many shallow people raised in this new age of technology, everyone is so self important now, they all have their own blog so you can read their opinion on tonight’s American Idle, or you can go to their Myspace page where they show off their “individualism” by downloading a template someone else made and 2 million other jerk-offs have.. Or you can go to their ‘twitter’ page where they’re going to keep you informed on what they had for lunch today at McDonalds…

This whole culture of political correctness, can’t say anything anymore without offending someone, everyone is so sensitive and insecure, can’t even laugh at themselves anymore.. Everyone’s a narc.. All these bored, goody-good suburban mothers who stand by the window with their finger on the 9-11 quick dial in case some kids are having a squirt gun fight in the street and she thinks its inappropriate and threatened by the use of ‘guns’. The same mother who has a padlock on her medicine cabinet because she can’t trust her kids around some Tylenol.

No one is formal anymore, no one cleans up or dresses nice anymore.. They want to show off their individualism by wearing the grungiest ugliest mismatched outfit they can because no one else wears it.. Or they only wear branded cloths to show off how bought off they are by some company… And this feminization of the teen boys, these tight woman’s pants wearing, hair straitening, tight shirt teen boys, the ones with the painted nails and eye liner.. No one is a professional anymore, employees are encouraged to dress casually so they can’t claim to be professionals and get more pay, they are meant to look and feel like office geeks in Hawaiian shirts and jeans..

Musically, the young adults aren’t purchasing music like they used to, or they download it instead, the companies are after the profit and the profit is the 13 year old girls who want Britney Spears, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Jonas Brothers and all these terrible commercial pop stars, so thats what your hearing on the radio.. Or this whole hip-hop culture that died 15 years ago but is still being milked to the last penny with unoriginal beats, and repetitive jibber-jabber lyrics and some repeated snyth loop.

Same with the movies today, its all about looking pretty, glitter and flash.. Special effects, cutesy fantasy science fiction, or this demoralizing gory crap like Saw.. No real substance or plot, no great well rounded actors, just pretty boys with makeup smeared all over their face and photo-shopped. Nothings is down to earth or realistic.

I’d go on, but I’m sure that’s enough to get my argument across.

OMG!!! I miss the 90′s too. The 90′s was the best decade ever. Remember we had cartoons like Rugrats, Tom and Jerry, Pinky and the Brain, Dexter’s Laboratory, Hey Arnold!, The Powerpuff Girls, etc. Even Disney Channel was better back then with shows like That’s So Raven, Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, etc. The 90′s was the best. Back when kids used to play outside with their friends and just enjoy being a kid. When kids had a true childhood. I miss the 90′s. Everything was just so simple in the 90′s. Music was way better in the 90′s. Back when we had real music. When artists had real talent and made music that was amazing. I love 90′s r&b music. That was (and still is) my favorite music. Artists like Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Usher, TLC, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, etc. Even pop music was better back then. Artists like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, etc. I mean everything about the 90′s was just perfect. Tv shows, movies, music, fashion, childhood, everything. I think, overall, the music. The way a band or an individual puts instruments together. If they can keep it fresh that’s talent. I love what Tori Amos did with her album LITTLE EARTHQUAKES. She is very good with different sounds. Led Zepplin (not my favorite) is good with instrumentation too… And Sheryl Crow does well. Some people are more ‘about’ the music than the vocals.

For vocals, I think a strong voice can be good. I think Celine Dion and old school Whitney and Aretha Franklin call you with their voices. Also, Dinah Washington was pretty amazing vocally… She just had a way.

I think even fluff music can work. I love old school Britney Spears! She was actually very 80′s hip hop. Not particularly good with vocals and the music wasn’t amazing, but together they work.

I say listen to EVERYTHING! Try out alot of stuff… DO NOT let yourself get hemmed in by ‘styles’. Music is music no matter what the quality.

I select music by how it makes me feel. I love musical and classical and arias. BUT, I love a lot of beat too.
